Shipping by Rules for VirtueMart

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Plugin development ceased, all plugins made available freely (GPL)

With great sadness we have to announce that we are ceasing development of all our VirtueMart, WooCommerce and Joomla plugins. Effective immediately, all our plugins -- even those that were paid downloads -- are made available for free from our homepage (GPL license still applies), but we cannot and will not provide any support anymore.

It has been a great pleasure to be part of the thriving development communities of VirtueMart as well as WooCommerce. However, during the last year it became painstakingly clear that in addition to a full-time job, a young family and several other time-consuming hobbies at professional level (like being a professional singer) the plugin development and the support that it requires is not sustainable and is taking its toll. It has been an honor, but it is now time to say good bye!

UK Postcode some questions 09 Jul 2013 13:26 #1

Hi everyone, first of all thank you for your work.

I tested your shipping by rules plugin advanced version to manage UK shipping and it seems to work very good. But I've noticed 2 things:

1 - If the postecode is in a single letter (B, L, M, etc.) I need to use the code UK_Area, whereas with two letters the code ZIP2 works fine;

2 - For postcodes included in UK_Area rules the user need to get at least a postcode with five characters where the second and the third must be numeric, otherwise it doesn't work.

Can you confirm this is the proper functioning of the plugin or are they anomalies that will be settled with the next upgrade?

Thank you.

Pat

Dear Pat,
The difference between ZIP2 and the UK_Area is that the ZIP2 always contains the first two characters of the ZIP code (which for 2-letter area codes coincides with the UK_Area, but not for 1-letter area codes), while the UK_Area really parses the ZIP into its constituents (if and only if the ZIP code has the form of a UK postal code! If the ZIP does not have the structure of a UK area code, the UK_* variables are NOT available).

So to answer your questions:
1) If you want to work with UK postal codes, I would suggest not to use ZIP2 at all, but always use UK_Area, since that is tailored to the structure of UK postal codes.

2) The plugin checks if the ZIP code has the form of a UK postal code (i.e. "A[A]0[0][A] 0AA", where parts in square brackets are optional). Only if that's the case, the UK_* variables are available. E.g. if you enter a zip code "K1A 0B1", then the UK_* variables will not be filled, because that's not a UK postal code as the last character is a digit rather than a letter!).

I hope this clears things up,
Reinhold

Thank you Reinhold, now it is clear. In fact, I didn't understand how the uk post code system works :P

Just another question if I can...

I bought the plugin yesterday and I've installed it on my website. It works fine but when I try to save the field "Rules for country zone 7" it deletes everything I've typed in. In other words it doesn't save nothing in the fields country zone 7 and 8.

It's not really a problem, just a report for you.

Thank you for all

Thanks for the report about country zones 7 and 8. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce it. Do you have any special characters in those rules? Is there any error/warning message?
